Making your own shea butter products

As long as you have the right ingredients and the right equipment, it is very easy to make shea butter lotions at home – that’s what I do and that’s how people make lotions and balms around the world.

You do not need a laboratory, special technology or anything like that to make great products. I don’t have a laboratory, I have a kitchen. It’s a safe place to work – after all, that’s where I cook our family’s food!

Making shea butter products is easy but it takes time.I start by soaking all of my equipment in water with chlorine for one hour to get it perfectly clean, then I wash the bowls and other pieces in hot water. It’s important to put safety first – dry everything off well before you get started.

I add shea butter and whatever essential oils or other ingredients I am using and start mixing. The consistency of the product is the most important aspect – so you mix according to how soft or smooth you want it.

The hard part is cleaning up. It’s hard to get the mixture off of the spoon and clean things up well – it’s all very greasy. Just make sure you have plenty of time to do it all. It usually takes me four to six hours to make a batch of product.

How long does it take you? What are your favorite recipes? Let me know in your comments below!
